One of the current societal challenges is how to properly enhance safety against catastrophic events, such as earthquakes, floods, fires, explosions, as well as against other natural and man-made hazard. This organized session aims to present methodologies for risks assessment in civil engineering structures and systems, and to provide a forum to discuss recent advances and challenges, in an effort to facilitate the exchange of ideas in these topics. In addition to the goal of assessing the current usability and resilience of structures and infrastructure to the described actions, this MS also addresses topics related to their strengthening to meet modern safety requirements. The expected contributions to this MS include studies proposing numerical, analytical and experimental approaches.
